Title: Love | Hope | Community: Sexualities and Social Justice in the Caribbean

We are looking for visual art, performance art, audio/video interviews, music, new media, film, and/or any form of digital multimedia engagement with the call.

Donnya Piggott,  head of Barbados Gays and Lesbians Against Discrimination is a recipient of the inaugural Queen’s (as in Elizabeth II ) Young Leaders Award.

The citation reads "Donnya had to overcome prejudice and personal challenges when she decided to set up an advocacy group for sexual minorities. Barbados – Gays and Lesbians and All-sexuals Against Discrimination (B-Glad) is a lone lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) human rights organisation on the island. Donnya has engaged with the Prime Minister about issues facing the LGBT community and hopes to continue supporting marginalised young people in her country."

Cayman Islands and the other British Overseas Territories may have to sanction same sex unions even as in Bermuda, the Rainbow Alliance of Bermuda had to speak out against  against an ex-gay Coming Out Ministries event.

In Belize, Caleb Orozco speaks about the 17 months waiting on the judgement on the case he brought against the Government.

The role of God in the Caribbean's homophobia is the subject of the IPPF blog"Opposition to LGBTQ Liberation in the Caribbean"  and referred to in an article "Homophobia and   HIV: A Response  To, and Lessons From, The Jamaican Linked Epidemics  by Maurice Tomlinson in the Winter 2014 -2015 Issue of the Journal of the Student National Medical Association

However, in Barbados, Reverend  Davidson Bowen talks about extending love to homosexuals.

Guyana's  Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolyn Rodrigues Birkette reportedly "debunks claims of discrimination against the LGBT community"  citing her unawareness of the reports of discrimination and the freedom of expression afforded to NGOS.

The United States among other countries called on the Government to decriminalise same sex relations and address other human rights violations as noted in this Capitol News report

SASOD in Guyana starts is UNEDITED series on Youtube while it announces a US$10,000  contribution to  build its LGBTI Community Centre.

Guyana Trans United commemorated 11 January, 2015 as two years of injustice citing the discrimination faced against police, but it seems the Minister of Foreign Affairs was not paying  attention.

Pride in the Caribbean and changing times - Caribbean IRN Update April, May, June 2019

L - Image from BBC News , R - Image from Nation News Barbados Pride in the Caribbean Police arrested LGBT Cubans who decided to march against homophobia , after the Cuban government cancelled the IDAHOBIT  March. The organising committee though said the other activities in academic spaces would continue. NOW Grenada features GrenChap on the 17 May. In Guyana, the pride events and the Pride parade  went ahead without any challenges. While t he Trump administration might be seen to answering the prayers of some Caribbean Christian leaders to save them from gay marriage ,  the US Embassy in Belmopan, Belize held a Pride Month celebration .  In Guyana, the US Ambassador spoke at a IDAHOBIT cocktail.
